Yes, indeed, it is hot in Alabama in the summertime! Not a shocking statement, but I was wondering how I would be able to acclimate to the heat. It turns out, not very well at all. When I exit the air-conditioning, it smacks me in the face. It's hard to breathe in the middle of the day when the heat and the humidity have peaked. Walking my dog in the evening is usually a very sweaty endeavor. Even if you wait until just before sunset, it's still suffocating, and you also have to fight the mosquitos. Forget about summer cookouts! The heat never subsides, and I don't want to light the grill in this weather. I love sitting outside and enjoying a nice summer evening, but not in Alabama. I just spent a weekend in Milwaukee in July, and the evenings were so luscious and cool. The breeze off Lake Michigan was gorgeous. I guess I need to give it more time, but I'm not digging the weather right now. I suppose I'll feel differently in December when it's mild in Alabama and freezing up north, but I'm a weirdo who loves snow. Perhaps I'll never get used to the weather in the south. I'll suck it up and deal with it, and then I'll move back up north as soon as I retire or find a different job. Or maybe I will acclimate. Who knows?
